The Details

North Union Farmers’ Market is proud to present the second annual Cleveland Garlic Festival at historic Shaker Square! This grassroots food and music event will take place Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 1:00 PM. to 9:00 PM., and Sunday, September 11, 2011 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Summer Sunset Blast

Longtime deejay, native takes photo booths in Summit County into the 21st Century

Don’t look now, but in the age of all things digital, photo booths are making a comeback.

At the center of the renaissance in Northeast Ohio is PartyPix PhotoBox, a Cuyahoga Falls-based business run by 28-year-old wedding disc jockey and entrepreneur, Nicholas Jensen.

“I used to DJ as a side job, and I had a bride ask me once if I did photo booths,” he said. “I didn’t then, but when I looked into them the idea seemed cool.”

The Stow High school graduate now owns and operates PartyPix , a mobile photo booth company that provides services at customer’s event locations, which naturally include (you guessed it) weddings.

But that’s merely a jumping-off point, to hear the West Akron native tell it.

Not only a great complimentary business for his DJ service, BPM Entertainment, PartyPix took on a life of its own in the process of starting it.

“Our booths are very different than what most people are used to. They can really make any event special,” he said. “And they’re not just for weddings.”

With a background in design and marketing, Jensen’s idea quickly became a year-old business when he was laid off from his primary employer. He decided that upscaling photobooths for rentals at festive occasions could be a slam-dunk business if done properly.

Translation: this isn’t your mom- and dad’s photo booth.

“PartyPix booths can fit up to 15 people and you’re not squeezing in,” Jensen said.

“There are dozens of custom backdrops, including classic, elegant and funny, with some select props and at the end, you’re not just getting names on a photo strip—you’re getting custom design.”

Jensen currently has four PartyPix PhotoBoxes, each with cameras that “shoot digital at 18 megapixels, and offer lab quality prints on the spot,” he said.

Six more are expected to launch in the coming year. But that’s just the beginning of the enhancements he has lined up for the business.

“Now with our new website, we can offer gallery uploads, which allow guests to check their photos online before they have even left the event.”

Everyone wants the perfect party favor, Jensen said. But even in the age of scrapbooking, not everyone has a sense of what (or how special) a keepsake can be.

All of these great things have put a hold on the PartyPix blog – with our website update being delayed, we did not get the opportunity to update the blog on a regular basis.
